Some countdowns are made to be shared. A trip with friends, a wedding, a big launch, the last weeks of the year. Telling people "only 60 days to go" lands better when they can see it.

Countdown X turns any event into a clean image with your event card, its colors and its dot grid. You choose a size for Stories or for a feed post, check the preview, and send it to any app or save it to Photos to post later.

## What You Need Before Getting Started

To share a countdown as an image, download the [Countdown X](https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6757264819?pt=128028811&ct=blog_share_image&mt=8) app from the App Store and create at least one event.

Sharing as an image is free for all users, on iPhone and iPad. Free images include a light background and a small Countdown X watermark. With Premium, you can turn off the background or the watermark.

## How To Share a Countdown as an Image

Follow these steps to share an event as an image:

1. On the Events screen, touch and hold the event you want to share. Or open the event and tap the menu button in the top-right corner.
2. Tap Share.
3. Choose a format: Stories or Post.
4. Turn Background and Watermark on or off.
5. Tap Share and pick an app, or tap Save Image to keep it in Photos.

*The Share screen: the preview shows exactly the image you'll get, and the settings sit right under it.*

## Choose a Format: Stories or Post

The Format menu offers two sizes, both 1,080 pixels wide, so the image stays sharp on any social network:

- Stories: 9:16, 1,080 × 1,920 pixels. Fits Instagram and Facebook Stories, TikTok and Reels without cropping.
- Post: 4:5, 1,080 × 1,350 pixels. The tallest size Instagram and Facebook keep uncropped in the feed.

*Tap Format to switch between Stories and Post. The preview resizes right away.*

## What's in the Image

The image shows your event card in its own colors, with the same title, time left and dot grid you see on the Events screen. The countdown is captured at the moment you open the Share screen, so the image matches the preview.

The image always uses a light look, even when your iPhone is in Dark Mode, so every countdown you share looks the same.

Background: a soft light gray behind the card. Turn it off to get a transparent image. This is handy when you want to place your countdown on top of your own photo in Instagram Stories or another editor.

Watermark: the Countdown X icon and countdownx.app at the bottom of the image. Turn it off for a cleaner look.

## How To Save an Image and Post It Later

You don't have to post right away. To keep the image for later:

1. Open the Share screen and set it up the way you like.
2. Tap Share.
3. In the share sheet, tap Save Image.

The image goes to your Photos library. Later, open Instagram, TikTok, X or any other app and pick it from your photos like any other picture. You can also send it to Messages, Mail, AirDrop or Files from the same share sheet.

## Where To Find Share

Share sits in the same row as Edit and Duplicate, in two places. On the Events screen, touch and hold any event card to open its menu. On the event screen, tap the menu button in the top-right corner.

*Touch and hold an event card on the Events screen to share it without opening the event.*

## Tips for Sharing Countdowns

Share the same event more than once as the date gets closer. A countdown at 60 days, then at 7 days, then on the day itself makes a nice series for your Stories, and each image shows the dot grid a little fuller.

Pick colors that match the moment before you share. Open the event, tap the menu button and choose Edit to change its Background Color, Text Color and Accent Color. If you've already styled another event the way you like, you can [copy and paste its style](/blog/duplicate-countdown-copy-paste-style) in two taps.

For Stories, try a transparent image placed on a photo of the place you're counting down to. For the feed, Post keeps the whole card visible in the grid without cropping.

Sharing is for others. For yourself, keep the countdown in view with a [Home Screen widget](/blog/home-screen-widgets-countdown-app), a [Lock Screen widget](/blog/lock-screen-widgets-countdown-app) or [Live Countdown](/blog/live-countdown-lock-screen-dynamic-island) for the final 8 hours.
